Immerse yourself in captivating solo and chamber performances, then join the festival flute orchestra—a rare chance to collaborate with professionals, students, young adults, and amateurs in an unforgettable musical experience.

The West Michigan Flute Association, in collaboration with the Great Lakes Flute Festival, proudly presents the annual Darlene Dugan Young Artist Competition and Masterclass Performers Competition, held during the Great Lakes Flute Festival at Western Michigan University.

  • 2025 Darlene Dugan Young Artist Competition (ages 18–25): The final round will take place on February 22, 2025, during the festival.

  • 2025 Masterclass Performers Competition (ages 18 and under): Finalists will have the incredible opportunity to perform for Dominique Kim, newly appointed principal flute of the Grand Rapids Symphony.
